In this work, the use of thermoplastic polyesters in biomedical 3D printing has been comprehensively surveyed and analyzed, focusing on their application in fused deposition modeling. This review focuses in particular on the use of biocompatible thermoplastic aliphatic polyesters for the production of 3D printed scaffolds for tissue engineering applications and devices for medical use. This work was developed in the framework of the ALTERNATIVE project considering state-of-the-art and current challenges.
